Vietnam’s International Olympiad in Informatics Selection Team 2016 won 02 Gold medals
From 12 to 19 August, 2016, 28th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 26) was held in Kazan, Russia with the participation of more than 300 students from 81 countries.
According to Dr. Le Cong Loi, Rector of High School For Gifted Students, all 04 Vietnamese students won medals including 02 gold, 01 silver and 01 bronze.
At the request of Ministry of Education and Training to train, select and guide the selection team this year, VNU-UET’s representatives are Prof. Pham Bao Son, Vice-Rector; Prof. Ho Si Dam, FIT; Dr. Do Duc Dong, FIT.
One month before the contest, VNU-UET’s FIT prepared the facilities, set up technical team and collaborated with Department of Education Testing and Accreditation in selecting team.
Student Phan Duc Nhat Minh (ranked 15/308, 432 points/600) and student Pham Cao Nguyen, High School for Gifted Students, VNU-HUS won the gold medal (ranked 26/308, 416 points). Student Tran Tan Phat, High school for the Gifted, Hochiminh City VNU (ranked 54/308, 367 points) won the silver medal and student Le Quang Tuan, High School for the Education Gifted, Hanoi National University of Education (ranked 120/308, 276 points).
VNU-UET’s Vice-Rector Pham Bao Son, team leader, says that they are the best students from different Vietnamese high schools, selected by 03 national rounds during nearly 05 months. Their results have been the highest of Vietnam’s Informatics selection team since 2000.
Dr. Pham Bao Son reveals that there are 154 awards in total (50% of the student quantity) including 26 Gold medals, 51 Silver, 77 Bronze. There are 3 countries who 03 Gold medals: Russia, USA, China; 05 countries won 02 Gold medals: Vietnam, Iran, Japan, Poland, South Korea). Vietnam is ranked 7th.
In 2011, VNU-UET trained the Vietnam’s team and gained the success with 04 students and 04 medals: 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 02 Bronze.
